AI technologies, from Google to Grammarly to CHAT-GPT, permeate the oral health education landscape. The expressions "AI is here to stay," "We need to embrace AI" and "I think I just marked a student's CHAP-GPT generated submission" are common. Educators increasingly need to navigate novel issues and be innovative with AI in teaching/learning strategies. In this short-talk session, dental hygiene administrators and educators showcase to participants their experiences using AI. We need to remind ourselves that years ago, calculators did not exist. Years from now, the expression may be, “Once upon a time, AI did not exist in education."

  • Describe the current challenges of AI (CHAT-GPT, etc.) in student learning.
  • Categorize various ways AI can be used as teaching and learning tools in dental hygiene and dental education.
