In the 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, over 40 million Americans aged 12 or older experienced substance use disorders (SUD) within the previous year. Since this is a treatable chronic disorder, dental students must learn how to reduce the stigma associated with it and manage these patients. A fishbowl activity was used as an innovative strategy to teach SUD to a large class in a dental institution. Post-activity surveys revealed positive outcomes on using this strategy. Audience members will participate in a fishbowl activity on the opioid crisis, followed by a discussion.
