Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are the “tasks” that a dentist does, work that can be delegated to a learner, under a defined level of supervision, or independence, in a progressive entrustment model. We will present findings from Phase I of the ADEA Compendium EPA Workgroup, including 1) key building blocks of an EPA framework, 2) use of independent scale, 3) alignment with coda expectations and 4) how to adapt when considering implementation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss how a core set of predoctoral dental education EPAs relevant to CODA standards, can be used as a framework to assess practice readiness.
  • Modify clinical assessments to incorporate an evaluation of independence
  • Describe the application of EPAs in predoctoral education within your institution.
