My Name is Susan Rowan, DDS. FACD. and I am a licensed dentist and Executive Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry (UIC COD). I am a graduate of the UIC program, an alumni board and OKU past president, and former Executive Committee Vice-Chair, Member of the Admissions, and Awards Committees. I am a fellow in the American College of Dentists.. As Clinical Dean, I provide administrative support for all clinical services to the Dean of the College of Dentistry. My responsibilities include overseeing the Colleges pre-doctoral, postgraduate, and faculty practice clinical operations and preclinical/clinical education courses and programs. I oversee patient admissions and emergency clinics, central patient records, clinic instrument sterilization, dispensary, and clinic information management systems, and the Colleges patient care quality assurance program. As part of delivering quality evidence-based care, I have facilitated the implementation of antibiotic stewardship and opioid prescribing resources, including posters and patient educational materials. I also participate in the development and implementation of the College’s compliance policies and procedures for federal and state regulations that govern healthcare clinical operations, e.g. HIPAA, OSHA, and IDPH. I represent the College on UIC Medical Center clinical affairs committees and to the Illinois Department of Professional regulations in clinical practice licensure issues. I am responsible for assuring the College’s compliance with the CODA standards related to patient care and clinical education of the students and residents. I also oversee the management of the physical facilities of the College, including a 22 million dollar infrastructure project. I have completed a Teaching Fellowship in the Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Leadership Fellowship with the American Dental Education Association, and a Masters degree candidate at UIC in Patient Safety Leadership.
